ISHS Acta Horticulturae 850: III International Symposium on Saffron: Forthcoming Challenges in Cultivation, Research and Economics

STUDY OF CHANGES IN GROWTH AND ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES ACTIVITY BY ABSCISIC ACID AND DROUGHT IN CROCUS SATIVUS L.

Authors:   M. Maleki, M. Gholami
Abstract:
Higher plants have active oxygen-scavenging systems consisting of several antioxidant enzymes. Drought stress was induced in corms of Crocus sativus L. cv. ‘Ghaenat’ by cessation of watering and also a group of the plants were sprayed with ABA. Protein content, SOD and POX activity in extracts were determined. Data were statistically analyzed and showed that foliar spray of ABA and drought, significantly increased antioxidant enzymes activity such as SOD and POX and biomass partitioning to roots.
