Abstract:
In India, grapes are grown in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana; however, out of these states, Maharashtra contributes to more than about half the area and ranks first in respect of area and production in the country.
This subtropical area has unique features of viticulture and is distinguished by evergreen vines, two pruning’s and tremendous mildew pressure.
Frequent vineyard surveys carried out in the Maharashtra state indicated that there are certain disorders observed during maturity and near harvest causing considerable losses in yield and deteriorations in quality of grapes.
In absence of scientific trials conducted in the Universities or Research Centers, the observations made either in the vineyards or elsewhere on grower’s fields or on research farms, in respect of some of the important disorders, are mentioned below.
