Abstract:
Four promising genotypes have been identified after evaluation and multi-location trials.
These include one mutant (ARI-302), one intra-specific hybrid (ARI-27) and two inter-specific hybrids (ARI-144 and ARI-516). The ARI-302, a seedless mutant of Anab-e-Shahi has bumper yield and best fruit quality with high T.S.S. It may be used for table purpose and in processing industries for raisin making.
The ARI-27 a hybrid of grape varieties: Diamond Jubilee × Rubi red of V. vinifera is tolerant to the mildews and anthracnose and can be used for making red port wine and juice.
Likewise, ARI-144 (Cheemasahebi × Catawba) and ARI-516 (Catawba × Beauty seedless) are combinations of vinifera × labrusca and labrusca × vinifera, respectively.
Both the hybrids are promising for their fruit quality and also tolerant to fungal diseases.
ARI-144 shows best fruit quality, foxy flavour and tolerant to both the mildews, while ARI-516 shows early ripening of bunches with pleasant musky flavoured berries.
Both the hybrids are useful for table grapes, otherwise for wine making.
However, all these promising selections have special significance in Indian grape industries for their commercial cultivation.
