IRRIGATING SPORTS TURF WITH MUNICIPAL RECYCLED WATER

Author:   M.A. Harivandi
Keywords:   reclaimed water, effluent water, salinity, sodium Hazard
Abstract:
Recycled water is a viable alternative source of irrigation for sports turf in arid and semi-arid regions and in highly populated areas. Increased level of treatment and recycled water chemical quality created this option. Although ultimately recycled water use is dictated by local policies, irrigating sports fields with recycled water should be seriously considered where domestic water is not readily available or too expensive. Factors affecting the decision to use recycled water for sports field irrigation include: human health considerations, soil conditions, irrigation factors, nutrient content of water, and, most importantly, recycled water’s dissolved salts.
