Abstract:
This paper deals with the results following the investigations on the viral infections with Prunus genus (domestica, armeniaca, persicae and avium). The biological material presently in the cultivars collection of the above mentioned species and also the fruit trees in various orchards throughout the country were used. The serological and molecular techniques were employed for the following viruses: Apple chlorotic leaf spot (ACLSV), Apple mosaic (ApMV), Cherry leaf roll (CLRV), Prune dwarf (PDV), Prunus necrotic ring spot (PNRSV) and Plum pox (PPV) with the 3 strains: M, D and SwC. Peach and apricot were also tested for the Peach latent mosaic (PLMVd) and Hop stunt (HSVd) by the tissue imprint method. All viruses studied were detected but as a different percentage related to each species. The lowest frequency was recorded with ACLSV and ApMV viruses. PPV viruses were recorded in 38% with 3 strains: M, D and SwC. PPV-SwC strain was only detected in trees over 25 years old. PDV and PNRSV were recorded in 8–10% while Cherry leaf roll in 8,5% of the orchards with over 20 year old trees and in 3% of the cultivar collections. PLMVd represented 34% in peach trees. This paper describes some details on the presence of virus and viroid diseases and their economic incidence for each species in Romania.
