Abstract:
The male sterile lines of Chinese cabbage CMS3411-7 and CMS7311, with cytoplasm of Brassica napus were induced to flower at 5°C for 8 d to obtain trace pollens and the relative vigor and cross-fertility were tested by biological way. The results show that the percentages of trace pollen in anther of sterile grades 1, 2 and 3 were 73.5-84.4, 47.6-51.5 (half sterile) and 28.4-32.5%, respectively, as compared to the normal anther. The trace pollen in anther of sterile grades 1 and 2 became fertile by self-pollination and produced about 3.9 seeds per silique, which is similar to the situation of low self-incompatible line. The cross-fertility was only 9.1-16.6% as compared with the pollens of flowering Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis L. var. tai-tsai) even pollinated much earlier. This was about one sixth to one tenth of the normal pollen. Additionally we present the questions that should be paid attention in hybrid seeds production and the feasibility of using the induced trace pollens to reproduce CMS lines is also discussed.
