COMPARISON OF AROMATIC COMPOUNDS IN LILIUM SPP. BY SIMULTANEOUS STEAM DISTILLATION AND EXTRACTION

Authors:   J.-Y. Lee, E.-M. Lee, J.-A. Lee, J.-K. Suh
Abstract:
Extraction of essential oils of about 6 hybrids or groups in Lilium spp. by the simultaneous steam distillation and extraction method gave a content rate range of 0.01–0.09%. The Longiflorum and Oriental hybrids, among all hybrids and groups tested, were high; the Oriental hybrid 'Le Reve' had the highest level with 0.09%, and the Trumpet group L. regale had the lowest level with 0.01%. In the analysis of aromatic compounds in the flowers of 5 hybrids or groups by GC/MS, ester derivatives of fatty acids were detected in Longiflorum, Oriental hybrid, and the Martagon group. 'Linalool-like’ alcohols were detected in Longiflorum, LA Oriental hybrid, and the Martagon group. Benzenoids were detected in Longiflorum, Oriental hybrid, and the Trumpet group. Conclusively, fatty acid derivatives and benzenoids were present at high levels in Oriental hybrid, and 'Expression' was the highest among all the hybrids or groups tested.
