MOLECULAR MARKERS LINKED TO SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PRUNUS PERSICA (L.) BATSCH

Authors:   Yu Mingliang, Ma Ruijuan, Shen Zhijun, Zhang Zhen
Keywords:   peach, white flesh, pollen sterility, molecular markers
Abstract:
Progeny comprising 48 hybrids was obtained from a cross between '91-42-51' × 'Ruiguang 2', and was used to find molecular markers linked to characters such as peach or nectarine, yellow or white flesh, and male sterility or male fertility, by bulked segregation analysis. The results showed that the SSR marker UDP96-018 (300 bp) was linked to the peach/nectarine gene with a distance of 4.5 cM; and, UDP98-407 (680 bp) was linked to white flesh gene with a distance of 2.2 cM. Marker NNJ-I (600 bp) and NNJ-I (900 bp) amplified by primers designed according to a male sterility sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana were tightly linked to a male sterility gene with no recombination. Markers linked to the characters examined in this study provide effective tools for maker assisted selection in peach breeding.
