| Abstract:
This research survey clarified the characteristics of the new types of Shimin- noen (Japanese Kleingarten or JK) which were founded after "Tokutei Nochi Kashitsuke-ho", the Act for Farm Leasing for Special Use in 1989, and "Shimin-noen Seibi Sokushin-ho", the Act for Kleingarten Promotion in 1990, were introduced. These acts led to the foundation of the sojourn type JK and an increase in lot size. JK foundation peaked during 1996 to 2000. There are two types of sojourn type JK, i.e., JK with a "laube" and one without a "laube". The latter usually has a lodging house for visitors. Lot sizes are larger and rental charges of the former are higher than those of the latter. The rental term contract is one year for both JKs; with a "laube" or without a "laube". In urban areas a new farming system is introduced called Nogyo Taiken Noen and/or Shuukaku Taiken Farm, which mean “experience of farming for amateurs.” | |
