Abstract:
The new breedings ‘Bellamira’ and ‘Miragrande’ are compared with the cultivar ‘Mirabelle de Nancy’ (local cultivar ‘Mirabelle de Lorraine’™) which leads the production in France and Germany as fruit for the fresh market, canning industry and for distillation. Both show advantages in fruit size, flavour, shelf life and attractiveness of the fruits for the market. Special properties are a very early and high yield, a robust flower and a general resistance to pests and diseases. A very long harvesting time with good quality argues especially for ‘Bellamira’. In France and Germany, mirabelle brandy (‘Eau de Vie de Mirabelle’, local cultivar ‘Mirabelle de Lorraine’) is an upscale premium product. In alcohol yield and flavour, ‘Miragrande’ can be equate with ‘Mirabelle de Nancy’. But in all technical and sensory properties, ‘Bellamira’ overtops the old French-German cultivar ‘Mirabelle de Nancy’.
