Abstract:
During time, some valuable plum clones have been selected from plum cultivars in Romania. The clonal selection work was carried out on foreign plum cultivars and on autochthonous cultivars, which are originated into the heterogeneous local populations ‘Vanat romanesc’, ‘Tuleu gras’, etc. The clonal selection work carried out by S.C.D.P. Valcea had the aim to improve the fruit quality and productivity. Some new selections of certain quality are about to be introduced for cultivation: ‘Vanat romanesc clone 4’ has 15% larger fruits than the original cultivar, rustic, large vigor and very productive. ‘Agen clone 10’ has 10% larger fruits, more intense fruit skin color, uniform fruits and more productive than the offspring. ‘Tuleu gras clone 5’ has the same fruits traits as the original cultivar, but the branches are stronger and don’t break at the insertion point. ‘Tuleu gras clone 11’ has 5 to 7 g larger fruits than the original cultivar.
