| Abstract:
The aim of this research was to determine the species of the family Buprestidae, and to investigate biological characteristics and natural enemies of the most important species, Capnodis cariosa (Haus.) and crop loss caused by it in the Pistachio plantations of the Gaziantep province during 2002-2004. Two separate locations with different ecological characteristics were chosen to follow the biology of C. cariosa, its morphological characteristics, over wintering sites and distribution in nature and male/female ratio was also determined. The climatic parameters were recorded for these locations. Furthermore, the biology of the pest was also investigated in laboratory conditions The results suggested that C. cariosa laid 196.5-454.0 eggs in May-June. The most of the eggs were laid during June. The eggs hatched within 7-16 days depending on temperature, and the prepupae were seen first at the beginning of June. The pupae were detected first in the third week of June, and the adults were observed in the first week of July. Adults continued to emerge until November. Natural enemies of the pest were not seen during this study. Five Capnodis species were found in the region and 97.6% of them were C. cariosa. | |
