ISHS Acta Horticulturae 726: IV International Symposium on Pistachios and Almonds

EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT ROOTSTOCKS ON PHENOLOGICAL STAGES AND VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF SOME PISTACHIO CULTIVARS

Authors:   B.E. Ak, S. Turker
Keywords:   Pistachio, rootstocks, phenology, vegetative growth.
Abstract:
There are different purposes for rootstocks. Generally, they are used for diseases and pests as well as getting good quality and more yield, and absorb more nutrients from the soil. Because of different vigor levels of the rootstocks, they are effective for growth and development of scions. In this experiment, the effects of three different pistachio rootstocks ( P. vera, P. khinjuk, and P. atlantica) on flowering stages of two different cultivars (Kirmizi and Siirt) grafted on the rootstocks were investigated. According to the results, rootstocks were effective for bud bursting, start, full and end of flowering of the cultivars depend upon vigor level of the rootstocks used in this study. However, the rootstocks were effective for vegetative growth and development. The effects were changed between either cultivars or rootstocks.
