Abstract:
In this study, the phylogenetic relationships between wild Pistachio species were analyzed by RAPD markers, including Pistacia vera var.
Sarakhs, P. atlantica subsp. mutica (Baneh), P. khinjuk and six cultivars of Pistacia vera L. including: khanjary Damghan, Ohadi, Ghazvini Zoodras, Akbary, Nishkalaghi, Italiaei Zoodras.
These cultivars were selected based on a former study.
Among 77 primers which were preliminary screened 11 primers were selected that have showed polymorphism between genotypes.
These primers revealed 79 polymorphic fragments.
Cluster analysis based on Jaccard’s similarity coefficient and UPGMA algorithm placed the pistachio genotypes in 4 groups.
As it was expected the P. vera var.
Sarakhs placed between the wild and cultivated Pistachio species.
This result strengthens the hypothesis that states all the pistachio cultivars were originated from P. vera var.
Sarakhs.
In general, the results achieved showed that P. vera var.
Sarakhs had the most relationship with pistachio cultivars while P. khinjuk and P. atlantica subsp. mutica had the least relationship.
