GENETIC CONTROL OF GROWTH IN JUGLANS REGIA SEEDLINGS FROM OPEN FAMILIES OF DIFFERENT PROVENANCES

Authors:   J. Fernández-López, S. Pereira-Lorenzo
Abstract:
Fifty three trees of Juglans regia were selected in six different areas of the NW of Spain: three located in Atlantic European climate and other three in Mediterranean climate. They were evaluated in nursery for forest use by means of an open progeny test, composed by four blocks and twelve seedlings by family and block. The evaluated characters were total height, diameter at the root collar, importance of damages caused by diseases in the leaves, root collar, thermal integral to leafing out and survival.

Correlation analysis shows that vigor is associated to low incidence of blight in the leaves and also the independence of vigor and sensibility to ink disease.
