HEXAZINONE MOVEMENT IN BLUEBERRY SOILS IN NORTH AMERICA |

| Abstract:
The herbicide hexazinone is very soluble, and data on the effect of surface conditions on its movement have not been well documented. Four surface conditions: 1, open mineral soil, 2, open mineral soil covered with 5 cm of bark mulch, 3, blueberry sod and 4, blueberry sod disked to a depth of 8 cm were evalauated. Hexazinone decreased rapidly in the first month, and then declined by about half over each 6 months thereafter. It appears that there is less hexazinone in the lower layers of the soil and that the open areas had the highest concentration at one month but the levels equal out over time. The addition of the mulch layer or soil disturbance did not affect hexazinone movement but there is no evidence hexazinone accumulated at lower levels. | |
