VIRUS AND VIRUS LIKE DISEASES OF VACCINIUM AND THE SAFE MOVEMENT OF GERMPLASM INTO AUSTRALIA

Author:   G.L. Guy
Abstract:
The Vaccinium industry in Australia has been producing commercial quantities of fruit since the early 1980's and since this time over 50 cultivars from overseas have been successfully virus indexed and released from quarantine. Virus and virus-like diseases of Vaccinium in Australia are relatively unknown. However, extensive overseas research has established that there are more than 14 virus and virus-like organisms capable of causing major losses in Vaccinium production.

hese organisms represent a potential threat to the Vaccinium industry in Australia and a summary of the literature for the disease agents is presented.
