BLUEBERRY MYCORRHIZAE: CURRENT KNOWLEDGE AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Authors:   B.L. Goulart, M.L. Schroeder, K. Demchak, J.P. Lynch, J.R. Clark, R.L. Darnell, W.F. Wilcox
Abstract:
The current state of knowledge regarding the role of mycorrhizae in Vaccinium spp. is summarized. Survey data from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan indicate much higher levels of mycorrhizae in both native and commercial plantings than have been previously reported for other locations in the U.S. In a separate experiment, nitrogen supplied either as urea (60 lb actual N/A) or in a slow release formulation suppressed mycorrhizal development. Mycorrhizae infection level was highest in the fine feeder roots close to the crown, as compared to medial or apical portions of the root.
