GROWTH AND YIELDING OF HIGHBUSH BLUEBERRY (VACCINIUM CORYMBOSUM L.) IN RESPONSE TO LONG TERM (SINCE 1923) DIFFERENTIAL FERTILISATION

Authors:   K. Smolarz, S. Mercik
Abstract:
The growth, yield, weight per berry and the nutrient content in the leaves of cvs. Bluecrop and Jersey highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) as influenced by fertilization and liming were investigated. The data were obtained for the years 1988 through 1991 when the plants were 12 through 15 years old. Fertilizer and lime treatments to the soil in these plots had remained the same since 1923.

Both cultivars responded similarly to the macroelements and soil pH variables. The best growth and yields were recorded on soil with NPK fertilisation. Poorer growth and yields were observed on soil without phosphorous (NK) or without potassium (NP) fertilisation. Plants on the remaining plots (O, PK, CaNPK) were very weak and yields were low. The influence of fertilisation on the weight per berry and content of P, Ca and Mg in leaves was very light. Only concentrations of N and K in the leaves of plants fertilised with these elements were consistently higher.
