ISHS Acta Horticulturae 222: Symposium on the Fertilization of Vegetables under Protected Cultivation

GENOTYPICAL VARIATION IN NITRATE CONTENT OF RADISH ROOTS AND PROSPECTS FOR REDUCING NITRATE CONTENT BY BREEDING.

Authors:   M. Nieuwhof, S. Giezen
Abstract:
Between radish cultivars large differences in nitrate content were found (range 2.0 to > 4.0 mg NO3/g fresh root). Tetraploid cultivars contained less nitrate than diploids.

Nitrate content of radish can be reduced by breeding. As the heritability was rather low it is recommended to propagate selected plants by line selection.
